WHAT ARE LOLLIPOPS?
Lollipops are bias bindings that are pre-folded and packaged in a roll so they retain their shape and are ready-to-use on all of your quilting, sewing and craft projects calling for a binded edge. They are made in two sizes - 1/2 inch FINISHED and 1/4 inch FINISHED.
They were developed when were making a large number of quilts for my sons Army Unit during the initial invasion of Iraq.
Our soldiers were not outfitted with cold weather gear and by Fall they were needing some 'quilt things' as he called them to keep warm at night (not to mention a little piece of home!) So my guild in Savannah, GA - the Calico Stitchers - came together and helped make 33 quilts in six weeks - before Christmas! They only asked that I make all the bindings. I prefer strong geometrics and bright colors and so of course, my bindings were all stripes and brights and when we wound them to hold their shape, they looked just like a lollipop to me - thus the idea was born. As I see, no good deed goes unpunished! I am eternally thankful to my girls in Savannah for all their thoughtfulness and kindness to our soldiers - and they did it all again when he recently did another one year tour 'down range.' God Bless our Soldiers!
