2009 AQS Paducah Show News!
Hot off the press today is the final word on the 2009 Paducah, KY show. Alot of you have asked me what I know about it - well here it is straight from the show managers email to us this morning.
AQS President Meredith Schroeder announced at a press conference on Friday that the AQS Quilt Show will be held in Paducah, Kentucky in 2009. This announcement followed weeks of discussions about the facilities that, as you all know, were miserable for our 2008 show.
Here is what is happening:
The Executive Inn has new owners and is being operated by Space Coast Hospitality Management Services; they have contracted with A & K Contractors of Paducah, Kentucky, to remodel the Executive Inn (soon to be a Crowne Plaza hotel). Work has already begun on the hotel rooms with the hotel donating the furnishings to local charities. All of the hotel rooms will be brand new by our April show. The new managers are in the process of putting in a reservation system and they aren’t quite ready yet.
In addition, the City of Paducah has agreed to remodel the Julian M. Carroll Convention Center to a quality to match the upgrades to the attached hotel.
AQS Nashville Show - Flying Geese the Lazy Way!

WHAT ARE LOLLIPOPS?
Lollipops are bias bindings that are pre-folded and packaged in a roll so they retain their shape and are ready-to-use on all of your quilting, sewing and craft projects calling for a binded edge. They are made in two sizes - 1/2 inch FINISHED and 1/4 inch FINISHED.
They were developed when were making a large number of quilts for my sons Army Unit during the initial invasion of Iraq.
Our soldiers were not outfitted with cold weather gear and by Fall they were needing some 'quilt things' as he called them to keep warm at night (not to mention a little piece of home!) So my guild in Savannah, GA - the Calico Stitchers - came together and helped make 33 quilts in six weeks - before Christmas! They only asked that I make all the bindings. I prefer strong geometrics and bright colors and so of course, my bindings were all stripes and brights and when we wound them to hold their shape, they looked just like a lollipop to me - thus the idea was born. As I see, no good deed goes unpunished! I am eternally thankful to my girls in Savannah for all their thoughtfulness and kindness to our soldiers - and they did it all again when he recently did another one year tour 'down range.' God Bless our Soldiers!
